Curious Case of Transfer Students : Part 1
Post getting admitted to an undergrad course, why would a college student look towards transfer to another College or University? ITP delves deeper into the case owing to its rich experience in the domain. We have over two decades assisted many students seeking to move from one college to the other within the country and even internationally. Every need, each requirement or motivation to move is as unique as the individual but broadly speaking for the Indian students we can classify them into two broad categories:
1. US to US or US to Canada Transfer
2. India to US Transfer
Today, we will focus on the US to US transfer undergraduate students. There could be a multiple of reasons; the student may feel the lack of “best fit”, location issues or personal family issues. ITP during its rich interaction with students has noticed that the student may have compromised on the initial admission to a University due to low SAT scores or grades. However, the desire to complete baccalaureate from the US would have been larger than that and hence the compromise. Once in the US however, the student has excelled in the college and has performed very well with good GPA and the confidence of getting a good recommendation coupled with the aim of getting into a top-notch university. To actualize that dream the student looks to get transferred into another university and move on to apply and study in an Ivy League University. If you are considering t take the plunge we suggest you take a hard look at these questions and answer them.
1. Are you completely sure of the course/specialization/curriculum offered by the Univ?
2. How many course credits will be transferred?
3. Will you have to compromise on an academic year?
4. Do you see yourself and the Univ as “best fit” to each other?
5. Are you financially in a secure position?
6. What are the challenges involved?
7. Will your grades in the course acknowledged or will you have to repeat courses and to what extent?
8. Most importantly have you succinctly written personalized common application essays and writing supplements stressing the reasons for change?
Having done due diligence and introspection, we at ITP say go and chase your dream. No dream is farfetched, if you can dream it you can achieve it. Call us if you need any consulting for the change over and/or writing personalized common application essays and writing supplements. We can guide and propel you in the right direction.
